[fitswcs] Re: WCS activity

Folks - As others have already mentioned on this mailing list, NOAO has
been looking at FITS WCS issues over the past few months.  This effort
included some complex and substantial work, including test implementations
and an investigation of spectral WCS, which it took some time to complete.
We apologize for not reporting on this and involving others earlier, but
we needed to wrap up our various investigations internally before involving
others outside NOAO (Don Wells became involved earlier because he was
privately pressuring us all along to wrap things up and we had to fill
him in on what we were up to).

A report of our various investigations, including some recommendations
for further minor revisions to the draft WCS standard is given in the
