Dear friends of FITS WCS,
I added five names to the 'fitswcs' mailing list before posting my
exhortation, because I wanted these five people to read my
exhortation. They are Mark Calabretta, Eric Greisen, Bill Pence, Bob
Hanisch and Pat Wallace. Several of these five have, like me, been
worrying about FITS WCS problems for more than a decade.
I created this mailing list (appended below) several months ago to
facilitate discussions with Doug Mink and several other people who
have been investigating the suitability of the G&C draft WCS proposal
for their optical imagery. Because prior discussions of WCS problems
had seemed to lead to impasse, I wanted to try giving a new group of
people a chance to reach some sort of working consensus, and then I
could restart the general discussion.
I consider the people on this mailing list to be a WCS task group, a
working party. The goal is to reach consensus on the technical issues,
a consensus which the general FITS community will be likely to adopt.
