In the framework of the European project EUROPLANET H2020 [1], the VESPA initiative [2] aims to define and support the usability of interoperable standards for Planetary Surface Sciences.
One of the project tasks is a proposition for standard metadata description in FITS for Planetary Surface data, as FITS could be coherently usable in PDS archiving and Geographical Information System analysis.
To this purpose, we propose a GeoFITS convention [3] that we hope to integrate into the FITS standard.

This message is to invite you all to read and comment (by e-mail to me or directly on the confluence page) our proposition, in order to improve it and move forward to IAU and IVOA.

I can provide some example files too, if someone is interested in.

Thanks for listening.
Bests,
Chiara
