That is correct -- that type of all-sky display is especially useful for 
microwave
backrgound data, where the poles are of much more interest than the 
Galactic plane.

Thanks for the suggestions.   For now,  I will define  a single image 
with dual coordinate descriptions  for the North and South Pole. 
However, I think that ultimately mosaic keywords will provide less 
ambiguous instructions as to how a FITS viewer should display the data.
