[fitsbits] copy fits file frm exabyte to cdr

hi everyone,
i need a little help. i need to copy these fits files from exabyte
tapes onto cd. i used the t2d command to get them onto the disk and
then got the files from the disk to the cd. but somehow the file
extension ie .fit or .fits gets lost. is there any better way of doing
this or could u please suggest some modifications for the present
method.
