[fitsbits] CHECKSUM Proposal

A revised draft of the CHECKSUM keyword proposal, which descibes a way of
providing an integrity check on the information contained in FITS files, is
now available from

http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/heasarc/fits/checksum.html

This new draft is much more concise, but still preserves most of the
technical details of the earlier draft of this proposal that was prepared in
1995.  As the next step towards eventually getting this proposal
incorporated into the FITS Standard, we intend to submit this new draft to
the North American regional FITS committee in the near future for their
consideration.  Any additional comments on the proposal would be welcome at
this time.
