Mathematica 4.2 from Wolfram Research, Inc. now supports the FITS
file format for astronomical data, making Mathematica a useful
tool for performing analysis on one of the most widely used
standard data formats in the astronomical community. Mathematica
offers a full suite of analysis tools for your astronomical data,
including statistics, transformations, and plotting
functionality.

Mathematica 4.2 is also the first technical computing system with
full XML support and seamless Java integration. Now users can
access any Java program from within Mathematica and work directly
with XML data and documents. Version 4.2 also brings important
advancements in linear programming, statistics, optimization,
combinatorics, graph theory, and technical publishing.
