[fitsbits] CFITSIO v2.204 released

CFITSIO Software Release Announcement:

Version 2.204 of the CFITSIO subroutine library for reading and writing FITS
data files is now available at:

http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/fitsio

This patch release contains a potentially significant bug fix: in previous
versions of CFITSIO, reading the pixel values in a subset of an image (when
using CFITSIO's extended filename syntax, such as
'myfile.fits[20:50,70:90]'), on DEC OSF or IBM PC  platforms, could
sometimes result in strips of zero-valued pixels appearing in the image,
where each strip would usually be 720 or 1440 pixels long.

In addition to this bug fix, a substantial number of enhancements have been
made to CFITSIO in recent months, so anyone using a version earlier than
v2.200 (released in January of this year) should consider installing the
latest version.

The CFITSIO User's Guide has also been restructured to make it easier and
faster for new users to learn to use the interface library.  Chapter 5
"Basic CFITSIO Interface Routines" now describes the 3 dozen or so
fundamental CFITSIO routines which are all that most programmers will need
to use.  The User's Guide is available online via links from the above
CFITSIO home page.

Finally, more examples of simple, working programs that use CFITSIO to
analyze FITS files have been added to the CFITSIO Web site.  These examples,
in conjunction with the User's Guide, are intended to help new users quickly
start programming using CFITSIO.
