The -geometry option can set the size of the main window but I'd like
the file window to be larger (this is, e.g., the window you get from
selecting File, Open... from the menu)

I've been told that "the standard dialog box size has been increased
in size for the next version, v2.1, which will be available shortly."
So I think I'll just wait for that!
