Dear FITS users:

The qfits library is a lightweight code handling accesses
to FITS files. It is written an ANSI C, should be portable
to any Unix and compiles with C or C++ programs.

qfits allows the programmer to access in a clean way all
informations contained in a FITS header. No abstraction of an
image or a cube is provided, this is left to other image processing
libraries. FITS extensions are also handled in a generic way.
Tables are handled through an abstract structure and associated
methods for data loading.

The tarball size is 73k, including HTML documentation and
some example programs.
qfits is the FITS engine at the heart of the eclipse image
processing library, it is distributed under GPL.

See: http://archive.eso.org/saft/#qfits

You are welcome to try it, report bugs and suggest modifications.
Cheers
