New FITS reader and writer

Hello,

are there any astronomers out there which are using the GIMP,
the GNU Image Manipulation Program ? There is now a FITS-
plug-in available for reading and writing FITS-files.
Currently GIMP is available in Version 0.99.9 at
http://www.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/~gimp/gimp.html and will soon (?)
be at V 1.00.
The sources for the FITS-plug-in are available at

At the same place, there is also an executable for Linux/ELF-386.
