AM858 and AR570: 17, 19, 20mar06

mpr 21mar06

Results of quick examination of raw data -- no calibration done yet

All are continuum fast-switching observations

Summary: complicated. Note weird phase problem in ant. 18, IF C, on 19mar06.

  * ant. 13
    -1.3cm 19mar06 no data
    - 4cm 17mar06 fine except for last scan, which has random phases and low
                   amp
           19mar06 fine
           20mar06 fine
    - 6cm 19mar06 ok
20mar06 random phases, low amp. throughout
    - 20cm 19mar06 raw amp. low by factor 1.5-2
20mar06 pointing at wrong (faint) source due to script failure
             reported at Monday meeting

  * ant. 14
-1.3cm 19mar06 raw amp. low by factor 2.7 on VLA baselines, normal on 14-16
    - 4cm 17mar06 fine
           19mar06 fine
           20mar06 fine
    - 6cm 19mar06 ok

    - 20cm 19mar06 raw amp. low by factor 4
20mar06 pointing at wrong (faint) source due to script failure
             reported at Monday meeting

  * ant. 16
-1.3cm 19mar06 raw amp. low by factor 11 on VLA baselines, normal on 14-16
    - 4cm 17mar06 fine
           19mar06 fine
           20mar06 fine
    - 6cm 19mar06 IFs BD random phases and low amp. throughout
20mar06 random phases, low amp. throughout
    - 20cm 19mar06 raw amp. low by factor 14
20mar06 pointing at wrong (faint) source due to script failure
             reported at Monday meeting

  * ant. 18
    -1.3cm 19mar06 no data
    - 4cm 17mar06 no data
           19mar06 missing IFs BD
IF C has peculiar bimodal phases -- they jump back and
forth between two well-separated (but variable) values
every three 3.3s integrations, on all baselines
20mar06 missing IFs BD, otherwise ok
    - 6cm 19mar06 no data
           20mar06 no data
    - 20cm 19mar06 no data
           20mar06 no data

DETAILS:

AM858 17mar06 13:31-14:32 IAT (06:30-07:30 MST)
Log claimed ant. 18 working on IFs AC at 4cm

Pointing scan claimed to fail on all antennas except 16 on the last scan,
but this is not obvious from the data

4cm: no data from ant. 18
otherwise phases and amps. look lovely, except ant. 13 has just noise
for the last scan (factor 50 down in amp.)

1.3cm: no data from ants. 13,18
otherwise great phases and amps., except
ant. 16 low amp. by a factor 1.4-1.6 in all IFs (both VLA and EVLA
      baselines)

AR570 19mar06 15:53-17:53 IAT (08:52-10:52 MST)
  Only relevant log entry says:
    * 16:21-16:29 EVLA ant. 13,14 came out of DPM -> restarted EVLA script

Pointing scans both failed for ant. 16

20cm: no data from ant. 18.
    Phases from others are fine.
    Raw amps. vs. VLA-VLA:
      - factor 1.5-2 low for VLA-13
      - factor 4 low for VLA-14
      - factor 14 low for VLA-16
      - 13-14 factor 5 below VLA-VLA
      - 13-16 factor 2.3 below VLA-VLA
      - 14-16 factor 1.7 below VLA-VLA

6cm: no data from ant. 18
     lousy phases until 2nd set of scans (0 17 40 0)
ant. 16, IF 2 (BD) have random phases throughout, and low amp.

4cm: ant. 18, IF 2 (BD) missing entirely
lousy phases until 2nd set of scans (0 17 5 0), then all fine
** ant. 18 IF 1L (IF C) bimodal phases, separated by various (large) amounts,
switching every three 3.3s integrations, on both VLA and EVLA
       baselines

   1.3cm: ant. 13,18 missing entirely
     phases ok
ant. 16 very noisy on last scan (ref.ptg. failed)
raw amp: ant. 14-VLA low by factor 2.7
ant. 16-VLA low by factor 11
              14-16 is fine

AR570 20mar06 09:50-10:50 IAT (02:49-03:49 MST)
  Log entry:
    * 10:01-10:35 all four EVLA antennas stayed on the 1st source -- killing
and restarting the script made all well.
I have ignored this time range in obtaining the following results.

No pointing scans in this run

  20cm: no data from 18
No useful data from other antennas, EVLA was pointing at a different source.
EVLA baselines are just noise, but that could be consistent.
Note no data at all from 18.

   6cm: no data from 18
Phases all random, even in scan after 0 10 35 0.

   4cm: no data from 18, IF 2
     after 0 10 35 0, all data look fine.
raw amp. comparable for both VLA and EVLA antennas.
