In this context we only care about scan lengths when we reconfigure the 
correlator.  One might have to put in yet another type of dummy scan before
doing short OTF scans but that's a detail at this level.  Anyhow I'd be
surprised if there were lots of subarray-based OTF maps, though I can
of course imagine some use cases ;)
