[evla-sw-discuss] VLA AOC link

I talked with Skip but there doesn't seem to be a 24 hour
emergency contact number for WNM that they answer. All you
get is an answering machines thanking you for calling their
night operations and encouraging you to call back tomorrow.
Currently the AOC router has high CRC errors on it's input
side (the VLA is clean). Normally there should be billions
of packets with zero CRC errors. At last check there were
200,000 packets received with 1,300,000 CRC errors. The link
is effectively down.
I tried rebooting both the VLA and AOC routers (after contacting
VLBA ops). As expected it had no effect.
I'm afraid at this point we have to wait till 8am for WNM
to get to work. If I had to guess we'll be down till 10 or 11am
MDT. I suspect there's a repeater somewhere with a bad power
supply.
While the link being down is a rare event (once in 2 years)
outside of power outages we really should take pains to make
the EVLA more autonomous. It appears things limped along until
a new observe script was read and then things wedged. Apparently
loading an observe script reads something from the AOC. Probably
some configuration file in /home/evla.
James
ps: Gene I should be up by 6am (8am your time). Feel free to
give me a call at home 575-418-7368. I doubt there's much
we can do but I'm game to try.
