   I would like to *know* whether there's evidence of missed packets.   That
should be very unlikely.   If it happened there's something wrong and I need
to know about it.

   There's a tremendous difference between a protocol not being guarenteed
to be reliable and it's being 'un-reliable'.   Guarenteed vs not guarenteed is 
pretty much the difference between 0% chance and .000000000001% chance (or 
less).
