I went through the same exercise for the VLA a few years ago
and came up with around 50,000 lines. This is surely an
underestimate, but 100,000 would just as surely be an
overestimate. Of that 50,000, about 10,000 is for operator
stuff. In addition there are a number of programs that are
used offline to, for example, solve for baselines and the
pointing model. If these were to be included I guess that
it would add no more than 10,000 lines.
so, for the current VLA, no more than 100,000 lines of code.
