<div><span style="font-size:1.125rem;">Hello, </span></div><div><span style="font-size:1.125rem;">I would like to ask for your help regarding the VLA primary beam correction. In our project, we perform single-pointing observations to measure HI absorption toward continuum sources. Our observations are sensitive enough to detect faint sources at the edge of the field-of-view, and I think that a primary beam correction needs to be applied to extract reliable absorption spectra from those sources. I read the document about the VLA field-of-view (https://science.nrao.edu/facilities/vla/docs/manuals/oss/performance/fov) and found that the VLA primary beam has been measured and the beam parameters have been incorporated into AIPS and CASA. My questions are then: (1) I think that the primary beam correction needs to be applied to final cleaned images, correct? Can I apply it to both continuum images and spectral line cubes? (2) The document says that AIPS has the new beam parameters incorporated already. What does it mean? Does it mean that AIPS would recognize the telescope from the image header (EVLA in our case) and the default pbcor parameters would be sufficient? Or should I provide specific coefficients?
