16292. September 26, 2025 Gaussian fitting Eric
XGAUS was limited to 8 components which it always wrote in
the XG table. To enable more than 8 requires a lot of
changes:
XGINI Added NGAUSS as a keyword to the call sequence with
4 as default and 32 as upper limit. Added rms
column over spectrum in residual.
TABXG The RESULT parameter is now 3*NGAUSS answers followed
by 3*NGAUSS errors where NGAUSS is set when the XG
table is first created. Call sequence gets the rms
value.
TSKHLP Changed to honor operations with the code <m>-<n>
in order to avoid many hundreds of entries in HLPXGAUS.
XGAUS Changed to allow up to 32 Gaussian components. Reuse
of an XG table allowed only when the number of
Gaussians is <= the initial NGAUSS. When the number
of Gaussians gets significant, menus are changed to
keep them able to be represented on the TV. Display
of the fit images requires selected a desired component
if NGAUSS>4. Compute and save residual rms and write
it out if requested.

Help and run time help files changed appropriately.

To go along with the XGAUS changes, changed
ZEINI Added rms column
TABZE Added rms colum in call sequence, RESULT parameter
as in XG table.
ZEMAN Changed to allow up to 32 Gaussian components which
must match the number in the XG table. Compute and
save the residual rms and allow it to be written as
an output image. SLOPES are only for actual Gaussians
not necessarily Gaussian 1, 2, etc. RMS is added to
TV plots. The checking routine computes the rms
of the residual from the data. The fitting residual
array was not always initialized correctly.
ZAMAN As ZEMAN.
Help and run time help files changed appropriately.

Changed XG2PL to handle the new XGINI, TABXG, and TABZE call
sequences. Displays the rmses when available.

NEW TASK: XG2XG copies an XG or ZE table changing the number
of Gaussians allowed, either increasing or decreasing, the
maximum number. Previously all XG and ZE tables had 8
components which may well be too many or too few for a
particular data set.
