I have only a little idea what to suggest since I do not know where you
are running AIPS or how that "server" is set up. Usually, users need
to "cd $AIPS_ROOT; source LOGIN.SH" to get the $PATH set to reference
AIPS. At that point the symbol "aips" should be known and point to
$AIPS_ROOT/START_AIPS.
Why aips would suddenly exit and not allow you to restart is a mystery.
Were there abort or other shut down messages? Is someone at your
installation updating the version of AIPS to the new release?
