[daip] cut and paste into AIPS

I'm having an issue that, for me, is new to my new Apple Studio
computer. If I have AIPS input lines in another file (like my notes
file) and try to cut and paste them into AIPS, nothing executes until I
hit <return> on the keyboard, and then only the first line executes.
AIPS used to execute all the lines as if I had typed them in. I have
tried pasting lines that were cut from an emacs app (not embedded in
xterm), from an xterm, from terminal, and lines that had previously
executed in my AIPS window (xterm). None execute until I hit <return>.
If I cut from emacs and paste into an emacs creating a run file, then
run the run file in AIPS, the lines are executed normally. It appears
that, whatever line feed, carriage return or whatever that ends lines in
the cut and paste is not accepted by AIPS as a <return>. Note that the
cuts were tried with <command> C from all origin types and, for the
xterm sources, alternatively by simply highlighting the desired text.
All pastes were with a middle button click.
The computer is an Apple Studio running macOS Monterey (12.6.3). The X11
system is XQuartz 2.8.5. The emacs is 28.2(9.0) from Homebrew.
Any clue what is going on?
Cheers,
Craig
