To take your questions in reverse oder:

(iii) The adverb RGBLEVS may be used to color the contours in any way
       you like.  See HELP RGBLEVS for info about some ways to set
       the values.

(ii)  The adverb DODARK controls the switch between black and white
       contour lines.  That may help.  Note in LWPLA the pen width
       adverb LPEN which can be used to make the lines thicker and
       hence more visible.

(i)   Given that you have succeeded with many images, I wonder what
       can be wrong with PanSTARRS images.  I would need to see the
       IMHEADER for such an image after it is read into AIPS.  The
       phrase "is not happening" does not tell me much.
