Actually an ABORT FILLM should have worked.  The issue comes from NCOUNT
which has a default value of 999.  With numbered files you get a file 
does
not exist error when the number read uses up the number present.  But
when the bare file name works it will read it 999 times.  I have put in
a change that should stop this.  Please try again.  Be sure that
DOWAIT is false in case there is a need for an ABORT.
