Hi Eric,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I tried a couple of them, although unsuccessfully. For example, 
1. aips tv=local:1 
gives the error ---
.../AIPS2020/TVDEVS.SH:301: no matches found: /tmp/XAS.1.*
expr: not a decimal number: '       1'
2. ls /tmp 
did not show any LOK, XAS, MSS, and/or TKS files.
3. With Mac OS Catalina, Apple has changed the default shell to zsh instead of bash.
4. I removed all the files and re-installed AIPS and right it is working properly with TV etc. [Actually it had worked once earlier as well, but eventually both the TV and MESSAGE windows disappeared.] Right now, I am not closing my AIPS because I fear it will not come back up correctly. These are the messages I got when I started AIPS after the new installation.
