[daip] aips installation mac

Hello. I have purchased a new Mac laptop and am in the process of installing AIPS. Here are the quick details:

MacOS 10.14.5 Mojave, intel core i9 processor
31DEC19 aips installation from binaries (this week - Wednesday, I think)

My first issue was aips not loading the fortran libraries ( on /usr/local/gfortran/lib/libgfortran.3.dylib ) which made perfect sense as I had not yet installed gfortran on this computer. I made my way through that installation and aips, upon startup, still had the same error but this was also understandable. The gfortran that I installed was 8.2, so instead of a libgfortran.3.dylib my installation had a libgfortran.5.dylib. I thought I would be clever (well, and lazy and hoping for the best) and make a symbolic link directing libgfortran.3.dylib -> libgfortran.5.dylib which did not work. Aips did not return error messages about not finding libraries, but it hung up as the start-up executables (ZSTRTA.EXE, etc.) really got my processor churning.

I think my questions at this point are
1) is libgfortran.3.dylib associated with gfortran 6.3 installation while "5" is associated with gfortran 8.2?
2) should I wipe my gfortran installation and start over with gfortran 6.3?
