For some reason, your XAS TV did not come up properly as you started AIPS.  You need to look at the messages as AIPS starts up.  If you cannot figure out what is wrong, capture all the messages and send them to me.  There are 2 likely problems.  On any type of computer, if you simply say "aips" as the start-up command, AIPS will try to use the TV via an internet connection.  That requires special setup in a system file (/etc/services) and is often overlooked.  If you are running on your own computer you can start aips instead with "aips tv=local" which will use local Unix sockets instead.  If you are on a Mac, the issue may be with the size of shared memory.  Instructions about this may be found at the web location www.aips.nrao.edu/aipsmgr/index.html and this requires a change to (or creation of) the file /etc/sysctl.conf.
