I am unaware of anyone running AIPS in this fashion. AIPS is vanilla
enough that it should work if the Linux emulation is good enough. There
are laptops here that can boot into windows or into a true Linux and
they run AIPS just fine.
Yes the CookBook is a fine place to start. Chapter 1 is a short
introduction. Chapters 2 and 3 give the basics. AIPS is now almost 40
years old so some of what we (still) support is almost certainly not
relevant (e.g. magnetic tapes). But do not let that age fool you - we
are still changing and improving things even if the man power is now
down to just me with lots of people to talk to.
