I am assuming you followed the instructions to reboot your computer and 
that you entered after the reboot "sysctl kern.sysv" and saw the values 
you typed above.

You must have a very large display screen.  You could try 25165824 which 
is 24 Mbytes.  It does not hurt if it is larger than necessary.  There 
are alternatives - inside AIPS enter HELP XAS.  That will show you 
parameters honored by XAS from your .Xdefaults file.  You can limit the 
size of your XAS TV display or turn off shared memory.  The latter will 
hurt performance but on modern machines it is not too bad.
