Dear AIPS professor,

I will be a PhD student in NAOJ from this October. Recently, I wanted to install the 31DEC17 version of AIPS on my MacBook Pro(macOS Sierra 10.12.3). But I came across a few problems. Wish you could have time to have a look at it.

1》First of all, I followed the steps on the websitehttp://www.aips.nrao.edu/install.shtml <http://www.aips.nrao.edu/install.shtml>, and set some parameters as listed:
AIPS_ROOT (screen 3): /opt/aips
       Group (screen 4): everyone
 Group Write (screen 4): YES
Architecture (screen 5): LNX64
   Site name (screen 5): AIPSUSER
  AIPS hosts (screen 6): LOCALHOST
  Data areas (screen 7): /DATA/LOCALHOST_1
    Printers (screen 8): pscolor ... NONE 2nd floor printer
  Paper type (screen 8): A4
 Tape drives (screen 9):
  Tape hosts (screen 9): 127.0.0.1

2》Then form the MNJ, I got these messages:
AipsWiz: About to run 'MAKE.BMNJ '...
AipsWiz: This will generate a fair bit of output.
AIPS_VERSION=/opt/aips/31DEC17
MAKE.BMNJ - Moving to /opt/aips/31DEC17/LNX64/UPDATE
MAKE.BMNJ - The binary MNJ now uses rsync for updates;
MAKE.BMNJ - but cvs (http://www.cvshome.org) may be useful;
MAKE.BMNJ - looking to see if I can find a copy of it....
MAKE.BMNJ - I cannot seem to find it, either it is not here or it is
MAKE.BMNJ - here, but it is installed in a place that is not in your
MAKE.BMNJ - search path. If it is not here, you should install it and
MAKE.BMNJ - run MAKE.BMNJ again. Otherwise, please tell me where you
MAKE.BMNJ - put it.

-n MAKE.BMNJ - Press <RETURN> to acknowledge...:

MAKE.BMNJ - cvs needs to be primed by a login operation; this
MAKE.BMNJ - is also a good time to test and make sure you can
MAKE.BMNJ - connect to our server. We will now try to login to
MAKE.BMNJ - the server (mnj.aoc.nrao.edu); when prompted for
MAKE.BMNJ - a password, just hit the enter or return key.
./MAKE.BMNJ: line 135: -d: command not found

MAKE.BMNJ - You might want to add a crontab entry, e.g.

MAKE.BMNJ - when you are ready to start the MNJ.
MAKE.BMNJ - Your configuration for the AIPS midnight job is complete.
AipsWiz: =========================================================
AipsWiz: MAKE.BMNJ seemed to work (/opt/aips/31DEC17/LNX64/SYSTEM/AIPSUSER/UPDCONFIG found)
AipsWiz: ==> Press <ENTER> to continue...:
AipsWiz: =====> Generate system files via FILAIP/POPSGN...

3》as the “Running FILAIP, POPSGN, SETPAR” said, I run the filaip by myself. The errors showed:

bash-3.2# run FILAIP

4》so is the “POPSGN”

bash-3.2# run POPSGN

DADEVS.PL: This program is untested under Perl version 5.018
  (Using global default file /opt/aips/DA00/DADEVS.LIST for DADEVS.PL)

5》then I tried to see although I failed to run the the final steps, I could also open the aips. In fact, it didn’t work.

I have tried to figure out what is going wrong. But I also failed after almost a week. Look forward to receiving your results.
P.s. sorry for sending an incomplete email by mistaking before this email.

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Cui Yuzhu
