The issue was the OS thinking that a file had 0 bytes for at least 2 seconds
I suspect it would be possible over such a connection.  Perhaps if the bus-mounted
disk is particularly full now, this sort of info might be delayed/compromised.

The other is I am afraid is not a true problem.  BCHAN, ECHAN, BIF, EIF plus things like pixxy 
are all measure in pixels - a count along an axis.  If IMAGR writes out 2 planes they are pixels 1 and 2
and have little connection to which spectral channels may have been used.  Remember one can do 
averaged channels with a sliding window etc (NCHAV, CHINC).  There really is no way to save the
physical values for later use (other than the history file - and parsing that is dangerous).
