The data weights are taken to be proportional to 1/sigma^2 to start
with.  Then the weights of the data entering into calibration, having
been divided by the model,  are changed to reflect the model scaling.
This can down-weight outer spacings a lot so WEIGHTIT allows you
to reduce the effect of the noise scaling to 1/sigma or 1/sqrt(sigma)
or even no weighting.

The SNR computed by AIPS is antenna dependent and is set by
1 / RMS phase residual in radians in each solution interval.
