Your later message seems to have gotten swallowed.

Are you using CTRL-C to exit aips?  I wonder about the number of 0-byte 
files you are getting.

cd ~aips/DATA/LOCALHOST_1
ls -l

delete all 0-byte files except SPACE

Actually the failure this time is the LASTEXIT file which is re-written 
when you next exit and so is not a fatal error.
