I have no idea what will or won't work.

The Makefile we use explicitly refers to /usr/X11R6 to that may be required.
On my machines these seem to be the same as /usr/X11/lib.  Note that Lib is
spelled with a lowercase eL

Since the test machine is 2000 mil.es from here I cannot tell what it is doing
with X windows
