The adverb STFACTOR is an adverb to the plot tasks such as KNTR, GREYS, 
PCNTR, and so forth.  Its purpose is to scale the symbols plotted as 
"stars".  The AIPS plot system does not recognize sizes for character 
strings so the labels will all have the same character size.  LWPLA 
allows you control over the character size (DPARM(7 and 8)) but that 
will affect all strings (axis labels as well as stars).

In the PostScript file, the chosen font type and size will appear in a 
setfont command.  You could leave the usual size at the start of the 
file and then find where the stars labels occur (should be a comment 
about stars ahead of the plots) and put in a new, smaller font for the 
star labels.  The help file POSTSCRIPT will give you all sorts of 
suggestions.
