I reinstalled the X11 program from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/ and it all works great now.

the above was provided us by another user.  Apparently yosemite deletes your X11 and does not
replace it.

By the way - the messages you sent were not from a tv=local run.  If you want INET TVs you need to
do the things on the AIPS Manager FAQ page in /etc/services.
