I guess that the best thing to do is to look at
$AIPS_ROOT/HIST/CHANGE.DOC
with a file editor (e.g. emacs) and search for the string you want to
see (XGAUS).  If you start at the bottom and work back you will
see the latest changes first and my description of them may make
sense.
