New Staff Reply: MAXFIT no longer working

I recommend COMPRESS rather than RUN NEWPARMS.  The former does garbage 
collection in the POPS memory, the latter generates more garbage.

MAXFIT does a parabolic fit - but a point source is likely to be
a Gaussian.  Expanding this
    V = 1 - a(x^2) + (a^2)*(x^4)/2 - smaller
but we try to fit b + cx + dx^2.  This will make something
fatter than the Gaussian to account for the 3rd term above
and that will then draw the b value a bit below the actual
peak to even out the differences between the fit the input
data.  In other words, this result is expected....
