New Staff Reply: AIPS INSTALL on MAC OS X 10.6.8

The error message you show on the KLEENEX command is
the message that a task would generate when it tried
to talk to the message server process and discovered
that it was no longer running. Note that it is ZTTOPN
not TV. I suspect that a task was just ending when
you did the KLEENEX.

Why the windows did not go away is a mystery. In that
case, please do a ps and see if the processes are still
running - 2 xterms with functions in them and XAS and TVSERV.
You must be careful when closing XAS by means other than
KLEENEX. If you do a kill -9 then the abort handler does
not function and the shared memory is not given back to
the OS. A new XAS will then require new, additional
memory while the old memory sits idle. The command ipcs
is supposed to display shared memory segments but seems
not to be working on my Mac.

Try a reboot and then run aips again. Try exiting aips
with EXIT and starting it up over again (the windows and
processes should remain). Try a TVLOD or TVINIT to make
sure the TV is actually working. Then do a KLEENEX and
see what happens. Check for the processes.

Eric
