Are you planning to write your own AIPS tasks? If not, you should
consider using the binary installation instead of compiling with
gfortran/g77/gcc. The load modules will run faster. This is achieved
with a

perl install.pl -n

You may have to edit the $HOME./AIPSRC file to remove references to the
gnu compilers and maybe other things.

The XAS Makefile is not auto-edited and has to be done by hand if you
are compiling locally - which I do not recommend. Edit the file
$YSERV/XAS/Makefile correcting the lines with LINUX or LNX64 (depending
on which you chose) to match your compiler - but use the binay if you can.
