The setup here in Socorro has an "aips" in /usr/bin which means that you 
do not have to have any aips setup yourself.  This if course makes for 
problems elsewhere.

Your login scripts should - but do it by hand now -

setenv AIPS_ROOT /home/AIPS

for tcsh shell or

export AIPS_ROOT=\home\AIPS

for bash shell.
