This is often tricky even within the University network.

tv=local should open an X-windows window on the Mac. Try opening some
other sort of window - e.g. in the desktop window at command line type
xclock &. That should bring up a clock face - or xload & a load meter.

Your Macbook may be recognizing that it is on a foreign net and erecting
firewalls.

Is AIPS installed on the Macbook? If so, try starting aips so that the
TV comes up. Then on the desktop say tvok and not tv=local in the aips
command line. It will try using your ssh connection to an inet socket
which may not be forbidden while a command to run a command
(START_TVSERVERS) on your Macbook may be viewed as too dangerous.

Our systems guy is out riding his bike in the Northwest so we will have
to wait until next week for more expert advice. When you send more
questions please send all of the messages that come up (if any) to help
in the diagnosis.
