It matters a lot - that is XAS trying to come up and dying.
Is this a Mac? There is a lot of info on the aips manager FAQ page
about this.
On the other hand - killing X11 may leave shared memory in use and you
may have to clear that. On Linux ipcs will tell you about the shared
memory.
Rebooting is the easiest way to fix this.
