ok I had a closer look at the data
10B187_sb1467747_1.55359.09679141204/

and in fact the strong gradients, I realized, were on the source not the calibrator. Looking at the calibrator alone with CASA it looks mostly goo, except for ea08, ea18, ea23 which do show some changes in phase. I attach a plot of the phases vs time here. Note that the scale is from -180 to 180. Are the phases about what you see with AIPS? Colors are the two polarizations.
