Dear all,

   I'm trying to install aips 31DEC08 on a Debian 4 i386 PC after
upgrading from Debian 3.1 . I compiled it with the gcc 2.95 compilers and
it compiles ok, runs ok, but when I try to list the data areas, I get
nothing, even though I have already copied the contents of the DATA
directory from the other installation and named the data directories
exactly the same:

--------------------------------

In /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_1 I have more than 300 files, copied from
the previous installation (that was working ok in Debian 3.1).

So I ran strace to see if I could find something strange. I attach
strace's output exactly when I write "mc" in order to list the contents of
the data areas. To summarize, it opens
/home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_5/MSD018000.018; and reads what looks like a
log of previous sessions. Then it closes this file and opens
/home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_5/CAD000000.018; . This looks like a binary
file. Aips reads 1024 bytes, then writes to the screen:

AIPS 1: Catalog on disk 1
AIPS 1: Cat Usid Mapname Class Seq Pt Last access Stat

And then reads 4Kb more. Then it opens:

* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_8/CAD000000.018
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_10/CAD000000.018;
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_7/CAD000000.018;
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_9/CAD000000.018;
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_4/CAD000000.018;
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_3/CAD000000.018;
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_2/CAD000000.018;
* /home/aips/AIPS/DATA/DEBIAN_6/CAD000000.018;

In between those opening/read/close, aips prints the "AIPS 1: Catalog on
disk " lines but not the contents.

Does anybody knows what is going on? Any clue is really welcomed, as I am
stuck here.

Thanks in advance,
 -- Diego.
