[daip] XAS debug mode

A couple of times lately I've found myself spontaneously in XAS debug mode
on my Mac.  It might be correlated with trying to bring up a second aips
(possibly with tv=local:0), but I'm not sure.  This is in a session that
is not in debug mode for quit a while, then switches.  It's not too
friendly wih programs like VPLOT when I get a line of text on the terminal
for every point plotted!  Is there some known mechanism for this?  I am
running with 2 screens, treated as one large one.  I'll try to give more
info if I detect it again, but at the moment, I don't have much more.
