Jean,

Do you have access to the Intel compiler by any chance? You could try  
building AIPS with it.  Another option would be to put in a symbolic  
link for the version of libncurses you're missing and see if the  
binary will fly.  You need to be wary of mixing 32/64 bit libs though.
