The XAS compile failure is almost certainly because you do not have
the X11 developers rpm installed.  In

/usr/include 

there should be a link file

X11 -> ../X11R6/include/X11/

which points at the missing .h files among other things.

Note that you can let install.pl keep going when this fails and get
the code compiled and linked.  The XAS problem can be fixed with a
simple make later after the X11 developers RPM is installed.
