You are having trouble compiling the antique READLINE that we provide
with the release.  Almost all Linux systems have readline installed.
Change the ~/.AIPSRC file to point to the libreadline.a file on your
system (my RH 9 has it in /usr/lib) and restart install.pl.

READLINE = /usr/lib/libreadline.a

I guess we had better improve our READLINE.SHR file that we ship.  It
is not working in make for many folks.
