[daip] installing gcc 2.95.3

It doesn't look like you have cc in your PATH, are you sure you have a
compiler installed? The easiest way to check is `which cc`. If there
is no cc, check for gcc. There is also a file called config.log which
you should also check as it may provide a clue.
