I just realized this when starting aips today at AOC (usually I don't see 
this):

2000-06-15  The home area for the aips account is now /home/filehost/aips,
             while AIPS_ROOT is /home/AIPS.  Do not change files that
             control the appearance or functioning of public programs
             in the aips login area.
