Eric,

Hello.  I am having an odd and perplexing problem with AIPS.  I have 
been using AIPS for a few months now, and while I am still something of 
a novice, I have not had too many difficulties using TVFLG, UVFLG, 
and/or VLACAL in a while.  I would appreciate any insight you might have 
into the following problem I am forwarding.

Someone who overhead me loudly venting my frustration with the problem 
said she thinks it sounds like some sort of *memory allocation* problem 
-- either with AIPS or a larger macroscopic issue.  Perhaps I will try 
re-booting the computer --  I suppose it couldn't hurt.  Thank you.

I am very confused at this point.  When I go through the calibration 
process, I keep encountering the same problem.  (Sample output is 
included below.)  I cannot seem to get the numbers to add up.  But there 
is another and/or related problem.  For example, using uvflg I deleted:

the phase calibrator for IF 1, Stokes RCP and LCP for antennas 1, 12 
from 07:24:20-07:25:00:00

MU_LEP for IF 1, Stokes RCP and LCP for antennas 1, 12 from 
07:25:00-07:33:30

On tvflg, there appears to be *nothing there*, i.e., there is no longer 
anything for me to delete/flag.  However, it, nonetheless, turns up on 
the listr output.  It is like a ghost listing.  I don't understand.  How 
this can be?

I see less in TVFLG than what LISTR indicates is still there.  I didn't check all 8 IF's and/or 
polarizations, but I did check both the phase calibrator and the stellar source (MU_LEP).

With respect to possibly deleting too much, I don't think so.  However, 
I don't know enough about the process to say with 100% certainty.  I 
only deleted those antennas and times where there was a  "gain phase" of 
at least 44 or 45 degrees, and actually, I kept some that were <50 degrees.


Please advise.  Should I try to continue?  I have been deleting all of the 'SN' files and 'CL' file 
number 2 each time.  Is it possible that something within AIPS is not working properly?  Thanks.
